Garbage & Recycling Collection Date Change – Swissvale 2024-0725 – regular schedule Monday through Friday except on holidays – New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th (Independence Day), Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day – when a one day delayed schedule is put in place.

Christmas Tree Recycling – 2024-0055 – will begin in January and continue for about three weeks on your regular trash day unless there is a snow event that requires crews to plow and salt the roads.

Clean Up Day – Swissvale – 2024-0420 –  4/20/24 This is our town wide litter clean-up event. Volunteers are invited to gather at the Public Works Garage on McCague Street at 9:30 a.m. to receive high-visibility shirts, gloves, garbage bags, grabbers and other necessary supplies to deploy throughout Swissvale and clean-up trash and litter. Coffee and light refreshments will be provided in the morning and lunch will be provided to all volunteers from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm. Volunteers will also have a chance to win door prizes just for helping out! Residents of all ages are encouraged to participate and make our town a place to be proud of. A couple of hours of volunteerism will go a long way towards beautifying Swissvale!

Hard to Recycle Day – Swissvale – 2024-0348 – Hard to Recycle Event—Saturday, May 18 (9:00 am – 1:00 pm) This is our annual electronics, household hazardous waste and hard to dispose of items collection at Les Getz Memorial Park. Acceptable items include televisions, computers, computer peripherals, batteries, tires, household hazardous waste (paints, paint thinners, oils, antifreeze, etc.), bulk items and building materials.

National Night Out (NNO) is an annual community-building opportunity on the first Tuesday in August. This year it falls on Tuesday, August 6, 2024. Neighbors across the nation host block parties! NNO promotes neighborhood camaraderie to make our communities safer, more caring places to live.

Borough Real Estate Tax Due – Swissvale – 2024-0629 – Borough Real Estate Tax Bills are mailed the first week of May. Payment is due by June 30th for the discounted rate. The due date for full payment is August 31st. 8/26/24: TO THE RESIDENTS OF SWISSVALE & BRADDOCK HILLS:  Please take notice that a Public Hearing will be held on August 26, 2024, at 7:00 P.M. at the Dickson STEAM Academy Gymnasium (side entrance) located at 7301 Schoyer Ave. Swissvale, Pa. 15218, to discuss a proposed establishment of a Regional Police Department between the Braddock Hills Borough and Swissvale Borough Police Departments. All interested residents of the Boroughs of Swissvale & Braddock Hills are invited to attend and participate in the hearing. 8/19/24: The Borough of Swissvale, in cooperation with the WalkWorks Program of the Pennsylvania Downtown Center with funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Health ($30,000.00), is seeking a qualified transportation planning consultant to develop an Active Transportation Plan for the Borough. 8/6/24: Reminder! Letters of interest are due this Friday, August 9th! We are looking for interested residents who would like to participate as a member of the Steering Committee for the development of a borough Active Transportation Plan. Steering Committee members will be expected to participate in regular meetings [minimum of 3] over the next year, to review documents, provide comments, attend public outreach meetings and other activities, and disseminate information about the process to their networks.  We are specially looking for residents in the following categories: Seniors, Person with a disability, Public Transit user.
