Landscape and Environment – Carrie Furnace

April 20 @ 10:00 am - 3:30 pm

$100
Full Day Program: Landscape and Environment Saturday, April 20, 10 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
Explore the intersection of art and industry with a program offered in collaboration with Rivers of Steel. Begin your day at the Frick, where you’ll delve into landscape paintings and the history of the Frick family, then journey to the Carrie Blast Furnaces National Historic Landmark to witness firsthand the industrial legacy of Henry Clay Frick.
$100 per person.
Like many industrialists, Henry Clay Frick collected pastoral landscape paintings while building industries that harmed the natural environment. This partnership program with Rivers of Steel will immerse attendees in both the artistic and actual landscape. The day will begin at the Frick with an exploration of both landscape paintings in Vermeer, Monet, Rembrandt: Forging the Frick Collections in Pittsburgh & New York and in Clayton, home of the Henry Clay Frick family. Attendees will then travel to the Carrie Blast Furnaces National Historic Landmark, located in Rankin and Swissvale, to experience a rare remaining industrial site that is also directly connected to Henry Clay Frick’s work with the steel industry. Lunch is included at the Frick; transportation to and from the Carrie Furnaces is on your own. Advance registration and pre-payment required.
