Dookers Hollow Bridge Closing Shuttle

10/28/20 UPDATE: Starting October 28, another pick-up/drop-off location will be added to Department of Public Works’ free shuttle service that aids pedestrians affected by the Dooker’s Hollow Bridge closure. Passengers will be able to board/get off the shuttle at the intersection of Bell Avenue and Keller Road in North Braddock. That is in addition to the existing stops at the intersection of Bell Avenue and Jones Avenue in North Braddock and the intersection of Center Street and Ardmore Boulevard (Route 30) in East Pittsburgh. The new stop was added to better accommodate the needs of local residents.
The shuttle service follows the bridge closure’s posted detour route of Bell Avenue, Jones Avenue, Baldridge Avenue, Sixth Street, Yost Boulevard, and Ardmore Boulevard (Route 30). It operates from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Pick-ups/drop-offs occur at each stop location at least once every 40 minutes.

9/28/20: Closing postponed to 10/19 – Allegheny County Government
UPDATE: The start of the Dooker’s Hollow Bridge closure has been delayed to better accommodate the schedule of both Public Works and its contractor. The bridge, which carries Bell Avenue in North Braddock Borough and Center Street in East Pittsburgh Borough over O’Connell Boulevard, is now expected to close beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, October 19.
Intermittent closures of O’Connell Boulevard are still expected to start in late fall, and the project is still expected to last until December 2021.
The project includes removal of the existing bridge and construction of a new one, including installation of new pavement, drainage, and lighting.

EAST PITTSBURGH ROUTE UPDATE: Dooker’s Hollow Bridge to Close on October 12 for Replacement
The Allegheny County Department of Public Works announced that the Dooker’s Hollow Bridge, which carries Bell Avenue in North Braddock Borough and Center Street in East Pittsburgh Borough over O’Connell Boulevard, will be replaced. The bridge will close starting at 9 a.m. on Monday, October 12, 2020.
The stop at Bell Avenue at Congress Street will be removed due to the detour.
The stops at Center Street at Western Avenue and Bessemer Avenue at Western Avenue will not be effected. However, the East Pittsburgh van will need to detour northbound through Forest Hills and North Braddock using Brinton Road and Yost Boulevard.
9/18/20: DOOKERS HOLLOW BRIDGE CLOSING – OCT. 12
East Pittsburgh’s borough manager shared that the Dookers Hollow Bridge will close to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic on October 12, 2020 at 9:00am.
Pedestrians will have a free shuttle service provided at two designated stops:
1.) Bell Avenue at Jones Avenue
2.) Center Avenue at Route 30
The shuttle hours of operation are 7:30am to 11:00am and from 2:00pm to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday during the bridge closure. Pickup times at designated shuttle stops are not to exceed 30-minute cycles.
The Bell Avenue detour follows 6th Street to Yost Blvd and onto Route 30 to get to East Pittsburgh. The O’Connell Blvd detour follows Braddock Avenue to Main Street and up to Brinton Avenue. The Dookers Hollow Bridge closure was stated to begin on Oct. 12.
